The General Steel Mills Group history dates back to 1963, when Late. Mr. Peter Yan Yeun Cheung with his Son Mr. Benny Cheung established an Enamelware Industry in Onitsha, Nigeria, producing Enamel house hold products. As an International Conglomerate operating in Nigeria for over 56 years, In response to the clarion call for direct foreign investment programme of the Federal Government for investment in the Country. Cheung Family’s Father Son duo with Alhaji Bello Othman ventured into Business by establishing Steel Factories in 1981, For 38 years the principal activities of General Steel Mills Group Ltd are manufacturing iron and steel products like Billets, Rebars, Square Rods, Flat Bars and ERW pipes of various Grades and Sizes. Mr.Benny Cheung, the Managing Director of the Group, Business Administration degree holder and took specialized training and work experience of steel industry in Japan, took over the management of the company in 1975 and since then diversified the Group to 7 companies of which 4 are steel related.
